Two designs on one plate, divided by the first title (Mock turtle). The first design shows the profiles of an ugly, elderly couple (he has a large carbuncular or bulbous nose) sticking out their tongues to touch; between them is a large bowl and above their heads two doves bill on a branch. The second design below, titled 'Puff paste', is an image of a fat cook, smiling contentedly, rolling out puff paste, while a hideous footman caresses her. To the left of the pastry on the table-top is a bowl of apples labeled 'Codling tart'; to the right, a bag labeled 'Apple Dumpling' and a tied bag labeled 'Batter Pudding' in a bowl

"Design in a circle. A man and wife seated at a circular breakfast-table. The man, who is obese and a gourmand, sits in profile to the right. holding a bowl with a spoon in it in one hand, a bill of fare in the other inscribed "Soup . . . Turbot. Duck . . Lamb". He is wearing spectacles and a large piece of food projects from his mouth. The cook (right) is showing his master a dead duck, which he holds up in his right hand; in his left, and partly supported by his knee, is a tray on which are two lobsters and a turbot. The lady, who is also fat, holds up her hands in horror at the cook, who, from his leanness, his profile, and his bag-wig, solitaire, and ruffled shirt, is evidently a Frenchman. He wears a white cap and an apron, a large knife is thrust under his belt. On the left a footman enters carrying in each hand a plate piled with muffins. Tea-things are on the table. Under the table a small dog, befouling the floor, is partly visible. Behind is a screen of several leaves, on the top of which is a bird, resembling a large dove."--British Museum online catalogue

"A big cauldron rests on the bent backs of Wellington (left), supporting himself on his sword, Sidmouth, knock-kneed and holding a clyster-pipe, and Castlereagh (right), dandified and bland. From their mouths floats a scroll inscribed: "O is not this a Dainty Dish to set before a King." They are on a much smaller scale than the cooks, who stand one on each side, stirring the brew. One (left) is fashionably dressed, and stalwart, with brown complexion and negroid hair. He holds a green bag inscribed 'Rakings of Italy' and uses a spoon. A winged demon whispers in his ear: "Never mind the dirty work my boy it won't spoil your Complexion." He says: "It wants more seasoning master Cook." The other, pale and emaciated, and wearing barrister's wig and bands, stands on a large dispatch-box in order to reach the pot; this is inscribed 'G.R Milan Commission'. He stirs with a rolled document, and answers: "Indeed Mungo it must be warmer to be relished." Behind him and clutching his shoulder stands a large Devil, who says: "This beats the black Broth of Satan." The steam from the pot forms a background for a large fantastic face or mask, George IV, saying: "The Odour of this Cookery is exquisite! How Invigorating!! The doctor: "Yes my good friend I see you are hard at it, and I never can quit the house of my rich patients without shaking hands with the cook. I owe you much, for you confer great favours on me, your skill in kickshaws and the ingenious art of poisoning enables us medical Men to ride in our carriages, without your assistance we should all go on foot and be stared [sic]!!-" A fat cook (right) with a rolling-pin says to a kitchen-maid who holds a spitted sucking-pig: "I say Bet let's kick him for a fee." "Bedroom scene: an invalid in a dressing-gown sits smiling in an arm-chair, while a fat yawning doctor, 'Quiet', puts a night-cap on his head. On the right 'Merryman', dressed as a zany or clown, with a gridiron painted on the back of his striped tunic, kicks Death towards the door (right), and presses his cap like an extinguisher against its grinning skull; he says: "Be Off! Be Off! you have no chance where Diet Merryman and Quiet practice!" Death answers: "Then my first job must be to quiet you and your partners will soon follow." Quiet: "Come now for a little quiet; Merrymans dose has opperated suficiently!" The patient holds a 'merrythought'. A fat cook, 'Diet', stands on the left inspecting a dish of bare chicken bones; he says, grinning broadly: "He'll do! Pick'd the bones clean! We shall beat the Charlotte Street Medical Board hollow!" A dinner-table, with an empty plate, a decanter of 'Madiera' and a loaf, is on the left, and behind it a large canopied bed. The chimneypiece (right), is covered with medicine-bottles. The floor is boarded. On it lie two piles of 'Carricatures', evidently the 'Caricature Magazine', on which the imprint is inscribed. There are also books lettered 'Jests'.
