Abstract:
Seven men are gathered around a gambling table in a tavern, two of them playing at cards, others watching. The man on the far right is fast asleep, his dog's head resting on his knee. In the background, a barmaid tallies up the drinks inside a bar. The game is between a shrewd looking man on the left and a tallow youth on the right who is receiving bad advice from a man to his right, with a glass in hand. Behind the youth a broken mirror hangs tilted on the wall. Below it, one of the onloookers is leaning over the back of the settee peeking at the youth's cards. Standing in the center is an obese man holding a bowl and smoking a pipe

"Fox, Sheridan, and Powys are engaged in opening a large rectangular tomb inscribed '[H]ere lie [t]he Remains [of] Mr F------s India Bill'. On the front of the tomb are two winged heads of cherubs and a scroll inscribed 'India Bill'. Fox (left), facing the inscribed end of the tomb, lifts the covering slab with both hands; the head of a skeleton looks out, holding out a crown in one hand, the other grasps the edge of the tomb and a cere-cloth inscribed 'Patronage'. Sheridan (right) stands in back view blowing a trumpet from which issues a scroll inscribed 'it was opposed by a sencless Yell'; on the banner of the trumpet are the words 'Compare the two'. Powys stands behind the tomb, leaning forward and blowing a trumpet, from which issues a scroll inscribed 'a bold Measure characteristic of the Movers Mind'. On the extreme left, above Fox, is a bell inscribed 'Vox Populi', tilted at an angle which shows that it is ringing; from it issues a long scroll which falls into the tomb, inscribed: 'Lie still if youre wise youll be d if you rise'. The slight differences in text include the addition of an apostrophe in "Opposition's" in title and the abbreviation "Pubd." instead of "Pub." at beginning of imprint statement. The two versions are nearly identical in their design, differing only slightly in the details of the image and in the text within the image., Lewis Walpole Library: Horace Walpole refers to subject., and Mounted on page 54 with one other print.

Abstract:
"Bishop Watson of Llandaff stands in profile to the right, his arms outstretched as if preaching. He stands under an archway formed by a retort, the furnace of which is behind him (left); the neck of the retort swells into a globe above his head, then bends downwards, its bulb resting on a table or pedestal (right). A bishop (Pretyman) sits in back view (left) facing the furnace. The retort contains (above the furnace) papers inscribed 'Treaty of Commerce between Great Britain and France', and also (in the bulb which Watson faces): 'Chemical Deductions' (impolitic prejudicial to the Manufacturers / My Vote against the Treaty.' In the central bulb above his head are small etchings of 'St Paul's' and 'Lincoln' [cathedrals]; between them is etched: 'Some fancy this Promotion odd / As not the handy-work of God / Though e'en the Bishops dissapointed / Must own it made by God's anointed.
