Abstract:
"A halt for refreshment in the Egyptian desert. The Princess sits on Bergami's knee, her arm round his shoulder, while he caresses her lasciviously. They sit with their back to an ass which brays: "Oh Tempora!!" She is very décolletée and wears trousers, and a feathered cap. A large miniature of Bergami, see British Museum Satires No. 13858, dangles from her neck. Beside them on the ground is a basket of bottles, and overturned spirit-bottle and glass. A small boy, Willy Austin, stands staring at the pair, and blowing soap-bubbles. On the left, but disregarded, is Mahomet (see British Museum Satires No. 14119) performing a dance with flexed knees; he holds up a crescent and a piece of drapery, looking towards the pair to say: "in his signis Vincetes!!," parodying the words of Constantine's vision of the Cross. In the middle distance, beside a second ass, also braying, Louise Demont sits on the knee of 'the Jewish harper', see British Museum Satires No. 13856, the harp beside them."--British Museum online catalogue

"A illustrated broadside engraved in two columns. A stalwart Highland soldier, with plumed bonnet, stands outside an open doorway (left) crowded with cringing Italians. He lunges furiously towards them with clenched fist, saying: "Filthy brutes! i 'ts for new boots, That a' you Rogues are swearing at her". The most prominent of the witnesses (cf. British Museum satires no. 13762) are Majocchi (see British Museum satires no. 13827) and Demont, see British Museum satires no. 13856. Over the doorway: 'Rogues Retreat'; at the corner of the building: 'Cotton Garden' [see British Museum satires no. 13824]. Behind (right) is the Thames. The Highlander's words are from the second verse of the song: 'Air Tibby Fowler o' the Glen'. The third of five verses: 'Fie upon the filthy louns! Abstract:
"Perceval, as Don Quixote, stands in front of the Treasury, giving his orders for the forthcoming session. Facing him, Ministerial members (right) stand at attention, clasping rolled documents, all inscribed 'Ministerial Military Exercise Aye & No', as if they were muskets; one is in Highland dress. A further phalanx in the background is on Perceval's left. He wears armour, with Mambrino's helmet (the barber's basin) and holds erect a tilting-lance, which serves as staff for the Royal Standard. His left hand, holding a 'Muster Roll', rests on his hip. Behind him, pen in hand, and with a pen behind the ear, the two Treasury Secretaries stand stiffly, each with a large book, one 'Names of Staunch Men', the other 'Names of Deserters'. On the extreme left and in the foreground George Rose stoops over a large 'Military Chest', filled with bank-notes, which he holds out towards the Ministerial troops. On the ground beside him lies a rose labelled 'A Rose in January'. Behind him, lurking in a gateway, is Melville, in Highland dress, with two similarly clad Scots peering over his shoulder. He says: "An Ye should want a set of braw fellows fit for ony service, I ha them here ready for ye". On Perceval's left is a mounted officer (Montrose) holding a paper inscribed 'Treaty for an Armistice for 14 days if Necessary'. Beside him is a mounted trumpeter. Perceval says: "Now my Lads lets see if you are perfect in your Exercise!!! You will stick close right or wrong". All answer "Aye. Nor refuse a good place when it is offered". All answer "No. Of course all I say is truth". All answer "Aye, Nor you wont let the Enemy Contradit me". All answer "No". "John Bull, as a burly and ugly sailor, sits enthroned (right), listening to Melville's plea of innocence. Melville, in Highland dress, and wearing a feathered bonnet, stands in profile to the right. with clasped hands and flexed knees; he says: "Indeed Mr Bull - I knaw nae more aboot it - than Johnny Groat o'the Highlands." Trotter lurks behind him (left) furtively twitching his superior's kilt, and jerking his thumb to the left.; he says: "Take my advice - and let us Trot off while we are well, he looks confounded inquisitive." John scowls and glares pugnaciously, saying, "Why Look ye - de ye see - I dont come for to go for to say - exactly, that you sack'd the cole - all I say is the Shiners set sail - and as you had the care of the Hatches - it is, likely, you should know what Port they steer'd into! I say let's look at your log book Old one." He wears striped trousers and a knotted scarf; in his hat is a tobacco-pipe. Abstract:
"The Prince of Orange (left), dressed like a Dutchman in (English) caricature, kneels with arms extended imploringly at the feet of Princess Charlotte (a good portrait). He wears Apollo's wreath, decorated with small oranges, before him is his clumsy flower-pot hat, containing a paper: 'Rules for the game of ye Dutch Pins' (ninepins); beside this is a Jews' harp, a degraded form of Apollo's lyre. His breeches are enormously bulky, and a tobacco-pipe projects from a pocket. He sings: "Lovely Maid, assuage my Anguish! At your feet your true love sighs; Do not let your Dutchman languish, If you frown, alas he dies!" She answers, pointing to his breeches: "From what I feel, and what I see, There's nought about you that bewitches; Unless indeed a charm may be In a Dutchman's great big breeches!!!" She stands beside a table (right) at which she has been sitting. On this are her painting materials, pencil, brushes, cakes of water-colour, porcelain palette, and jar of water, with an open box. Her painting is on a sloping board: a fat Dutchman trudges off, a bundle at his back, in the direction of a sign-post pointing 'To Holland'; he grasps his head despairingly. Behind the Prince a French window with draped curtains gives on to a small balcony. "A plainly dressed man with lank hair falling on his shoulders, bends over a dog, placing his left hand on the head of the trustful animal. With a large brush he applies a smoking liquid to its side saying, "Come here poor Dog! Thee shalt not say I called thee names, or beat thee, for that would be cruel!! but I will anoint thee with Oil, and moisten thy sides with my pure Linnement." The scene is in a yard with a high paling, outside an open door leading to the dispensing-room of the Quaker, evidently an apothecary. Just within the room is a large smoking jar of 'Oil of Vitriol'; on the door-step is a dish of smoking vitriol. Above are the neatly ranged jars, bottles, and drawers of an apothecary, with a pestle and mortar. A woman in an upper window of an adjacent house looks down into the yard; she shouts: "Ah Obadiah, that decietfull whining Cant, to allure the poor Animal, in order to inflict the most Diabolical unheard of Cruelty on him, shall not go unpunished"."--British Museum online catalogue
