Abstract:
A countryman, with companion horse and dog, stands outside of a city gate pleading with two guardsmen to permit him entry. His plea begins, "Hollo! you Master Whiskers don't keep me here in the cold all night. If you want to know who I am I tell you I am an Elector for Middlesex!" One guard responds, "Elector of Middlesex!! I never heard of that elector before, he must be a great man, open the gates immediately."

"Boruwlaski or Boruslawski (left) plays the violin, he stands (left) before an immense Turk (right) seated on the floor, an arm round each of two ladies of the harem who recline against him. The Sultan (Abdul Hamid) smokes a long pipe. Behind him stand two fierce-looking guards. In the background three other ladies listen rapturously to the slim, erect, and well-dressed dwarf, who is in marked contrast with the massive Turk and the voluptuous ladies of the seraglio. On the left a leafless tree hangs over a short, fat gentleman with a tall stick who faces right and appears to be talking to Lord Chatham in top boots and muff. In the middle of the design stands a doctor, in an old-fashioned wig and slit shoes, sniffing his gold-headed cane. A tall man and a very short man walk, with their backs to us, towards the sentry box under the palace walls

"Lady Conyngham stands directed to the left, feet apart, dressed as in British Museum satires no. 15720; she amusingly combines the ultra-feminine with masculine attributes and stance. She is immensely fat and wide with small cherubic features and curls; under her left arm is a cocked blunderbuss. She wears a wide-brimmed hat, a neckcloth fastened with a jewelled crown, a coach-guard's greatcoat, wide open over her tight-waisted dress. A pouch hangs from her shoulder and two coach-horns from her left arm. Above her head: 'I says to our Governor says I--keep your eye on them ere Leaders George'; i.e. on Lyndhurst and Scarlett, see British Museum satires nos. 15720, 15850. Cf.
