- Outside a country tavern, a recruiting officer with a sword in his right hand holds up a purse in his left, facing right before 4 grotesquely drawn long-haired yokels who grin foolishly at the prospect. Behind the officer stands a drummer wearing a grenadier's cap on which is inscribed the words "War for ever".

- Title from item., Place of publication suggested by engraver's name, possibly identifiable with Graham Stewart the wood-engraver who died in 1786 (cf. Strickland, A Dictionary of Irish artists)., Date based on that suggested for no. 5796 in the Catalogue of prints and drawings in the British Museum. Shelburne (right) stands, half within, half outside the gate, his left foot on the outside; he has a cynically complacent smile and is putting into Barré's left hand a paper inscribed "Pension 3000£ pr Ann". Barré, who wears a coat with military facings and half-boots, holds out his cockaded hat in his right hand as if asking for alms. Beneath the design is engraved: 'Rome's Veteran fought her rebel Foes, And thrice her Empire saved, Yet thro' her Streets bow'd down with Woes, An humble pittance craved. Our Soldier fought a better Fight, Political Contention, And grateful Ministers requite, His service with a Pension.'"--British Museum online catalogue
