- "A lean and grotesquely ugly old parson, wearing cap and gown, sits in his college room with a pretty young woman on his knee. She puts an arm round his neck and warms a foot at a blazing fire, on which stands a large coffee-pot. Her (large) straw bonnet and gloves are on the ground. Through a high Gothic window (right) two other Fellows look in, much amused. Behind him and against his chair is a table covered with punch-bowl, lemons, a decanter, bottles of 'Gin', 'Rum', and 'Coniac', and a jar of 'Preserved Ginger', &c. On the floor beside it is a huge volume: 'Doomsday Book', with other books, one being 'Arratin' [Aretino], another (open) 'A Master of Arts / a Fellow Feeling for the human Race'. With these are spectacles, cork-screw, long pipe, tobacco-jar. On the high chimney-piece are a nymph disrobing, candlestick, medicine-bottles, jug, and a framed 'Oxford almanack'. Beside it hang a violin and bow. On the wall hang a chess-board and a bag, as in British Museum Satires No. 12161, with a notice: 'Term begins -- Term ends -- Long Vacation'. - "Mr. and Mrs. Bull are in their breakfast parlour; she sits beside a table on which is a tray with coffee-pot, &c, he stands booted and spurred, impatient to set off. Through an open doorway (right) a groom is seen holding a saddle-horse. Behind are the houses of a London street. Mrs. Bull reads with dismay the '[M]orning Post'; she cries: "Here Mr Bull here's the Speech of that fellow on the Corn Bill - You must stop and hear this - The Price of Corn is yet Far Below the Price which is universally allowed to be Necessary!!!! why we shall all be starved Mr Bull." He shouts, with outstretched arms: "D------n the Corn Bill! I have not time to think of any thing till the Election is over. - why Liberty and Independence is at stak [sic] - What is Starving to that Mrs Bull!" - A scene in a coffee-house. Two men, one in a queue wig and with a pistol, another in club wig and with a sword, are fighting a duel while three frightened customers are trying to leave and another one cowers behind a settee next to a low table with coffee service on it. Behind another settee, a barmaid holds up her hands in horror. The gentleman with the pistol uses it to parry the sword thrusts of his opponent whose forehead is bleeding. A cat with an arched back and a dog barks look at the scene from the left. The room is decorated with a large mirro and shelves with wine glases, china bowls, and pitchers

- "A number of ladies (eleven in all) sit at a table at the head of which is their president or chairman. They are balloting for the admission of a member, according to the 'Authentic Rules of the Female Coterie' printed in the 'Gentleman's Magazine', 1770, p. 414, by which ladies balloted for men and men for ladies. The president sits in a raised chair, a hammer in her right hand; she says: "Mr Driver the New Member shall be admitted & duly return'd by me the proper Officer if upon examination he comes up to the Standard". Remarks from other ladies (left to right) are: "I hold up my hand for Mr Driver, if it had not been for him, several Noble Families would have been extinct that have now a numerous Issue"; "The ability of every Candidate ought to be strictly Examined"; "The Gentleman to be elected into this Society shall not be Husband to any of us"; "No our plan is to supply the deficiency of Husbands"; "I move for the Admission of Mr Driver as a Member. He has a promising Leg, an happy Assurance, & to crown the whole he is an Irishman"; "Lady H------n [Harrington] has her Reasons for not suffering Mr Driver to return to Ireland, but she must not Engross him all to herself". The lady on the President's right is writing in a large book.
