Between them, but with his chair from Dalrymple, sits a man in Spanish (here Portuguese) dress, wearing a feathered hat. The British officer sings: T'was You Sir-Hew - Twas Hew. that let the French Escape, That makes you look so blue Sir-Hew Sir Hew! He and the Portuguese (perhaps Freire) point minatory hands at Dalrymple, whose face is painted lead colour. On the wall are two pictures: (above the Portuguese) 'A correct representation of the French Plunderers stopt in their progress by the Spanish Patriots.' And here's a trifle for you to buy a pair of gloves. He answers with eager deference: You may depend upon it Madam I shall endeavour to give you every satisfaction. The naval officer on the right says, "Why, they say there is always a fool in every family, & they generally send him to Sea." The Duke of Clarence in the middle responds, " How the Devil came you to put into the Navy, Captain." The civilian to the right, observes, "Britons strike home!!!" On the table are plates of fruit and wine glasses with two carafes one of which is labeled "Goose" and a booklet entitled "An essay on Government by Jordan". The two players stand by the corner of the table, the one who is about to make a stroke appears from his leanness, frogged coat, and long pigtail queue to be a Frenchman; he leans over the table in profile to the left, wearing pince-nez. His opponent watches him, standing on top-toe, his cue held over his left shoulder, his face screwed up in anxiety; he wears a bag-wig. A number of spectators look on with expressions of amusement or concern: on the right two men stand together grinning; on the left a man watches open-mouthed; behind the table a man watches with an expression of alarm, another takes cover behind him with a grin; a small boy stands beside them. In a room decorated with a marble pilaster with Ionic capital, a corpulent gentleman holding a stick stands to the left of a table pointing gleefully to the two pineapples and three bottles -- labeled "Burgt", "Claret", and Chamne." -- that are set upon it. In his pocket is a rolled piece of paper with the words "An humble address to the K[ing]". On the wall behind him (right) in an ornate frame is a portrait of the Earl of Bute. This satire was issued at time of public excitement around the presentation of addresses to the King, and on the other hand, "Petitionos and Remonstrances". He is fashionably dressed, wearing Hessian boots. This picture is on the left of a row: a large picture of 'Alecto' (cf. British Museum Satires No. 7721), naked, wreathed in serpents, and brandishing scourge and fire-brand, with a background of flames hangs between three-quarter length portraits of 'Lady Douglas' and 'Lady A Hamilton'. The former covers her face with a tragic gesture; a dagger lies on a table beside her, she seems to contemplate suicide. The latter clasps her hands. "A game of billiards is being played on a table, one corner of which only is visible, so curiously elongated that it gives the impression of a triangular table. The two players stand by the corner of the table, the one who is about to make a stroke appears from his leanness, frogged coat, and long pigtail queue to be a Frenchman; he leans over the table in profile to the left, wearing pince-nez. His opponent watches him, standing on top-toe, his cue held over his left shoulder, his face screwed up in anxiety; he wears a bag-wig. A number of spectators look on with expressions of amusement or concern: on the right two men stand together grinning; on the left a man watches open-mouthed; behind the table a man watches with an expression of alarm, another takes cover behind him with a grin; a small boy stands beside them. In the foreground are two dogs, one, a greyhound, stands between the player's legs. On the wall behind the table is a rack of cues and two clock-faced scoring boards both pointing to the figure X. On the right is a door, on the left a small casement window. The figures include Lord George Gordon, William Holland, William Lloyd, Thomas Townley Macan, James Ridgway, Henry Delahay, Charles Pigott, Daniel Holt, Daniel Isaac Eaton, William Williams, Doctor Watson, and Joseph Gerald. On the far right a female servant brings in fresh tobacco pipes and a bottle and the walls include various prints and pictures including landscapes, 'three witches addressing Macbeth', and satires
