- "A satire on Cambridge. The interior of a large room showing two sash windows, through one of which (left) is seen part of the south side of the Senate House, through the other, the tower of St. Mary's Church, both drawn with topographical accuracy. Between the two windows is a niche in which is a statue of Athene holding her shield; in her outstretched left hand is held out a laurel wreath towards some men beneath her who have entered from a door on the right. Her owl sits beside her on the stump of a tree. ... Immediately below Athene, and concealing the lower part of her draperies a man stands on a high rostrum covered with a cloth. He wears a furred academic gown and bands, and holds out a rolled document in his right hand. Immediately below the rostrum a man, not in academic dress, is seated at a table writing. He is in profile to the right looking towards four men who have entered from the right through an open door, apparently 'professors of Arts and Sciences', whose names he is recording. The foremost of these is a dancing-master who stands holding a bow in his right hand, a kit or small fiddle in his left. Next is a rough-looking elderly man wearing a round hat and long coat. The other two are middle-aged, one holding his hat and a cane and accompanied by a dog. - "Heading to a broadside printed in two columns. A sequel to No. 13764. George IV, a whiskered infant, lies feverish and fractious in a cot decorated with Chinese figures and hung with bells. He is surrounded by Ministers. Sidmouth, holding a doctor's gold-headed cane, feels his pulse, saying: "Dredful sympton's [sic] a raging Pulse." A bottle labelled 'Dolbys Carminative' (as in British Museum Satires No. 13764) projects from his pocket. Liverpool, with pap-boat and spoon, says: "I thought how it would be, that Foriegn Emetick has been too strong for his weak Nerves." Castlereagh, standing between two lawyers, puts a hand on the Babe's forehead, saying: "how hot his poor dear head feels." One lawyer (? Copley) tries to push back a leg within the cot, saying: "If he could but stand on his Legs once more we might have hopes, but I'm afraid he has Caught the Rickets--" The other (? Gifford): "A sae [sic] voyage by all means Brou--ms drops should have been taken with more caution as they are very Searching." An old woman (left) holds out a ribbon: "Here's the R--y--l Leading Strings," while an apothecary (right) using a large pestle and mortar says: "O! what a fogo what a mixture what a mess." Behind him are shelves ranged with druggist's jars. In the foreground toys are scattered, chiefly military, as in British Museum Satires No. 13764; they are: 'Royal Play things'. There is also a rocking-horse on which are two toy lancers. In front of the fire napkins are hanging, and on the mantelshelf are medicine-bottles and a doll. - "A sequence of six designs in two rows. [1] 'Begging before the Door of his Benefactor.' Young Leach, as a crossing-sweeper, holds out his hat to a gentleman who amiably puts in a coin. The latter walks away from a street-door with a plate inscribed 'Sir Robt Taylor'. [2] 'In the Service of his Benefactor.' Leach, as a young footman in livery, walks behind Taylor and his wife, who are returning from a country church. He carries cane and prayer-book. [3] 'As Clerk to his Benefactor.' Leach writes at a desk in a bare room, with a shelf of books high on the wall. [4] 'Now a Lawyer!!!' He sits in a well-furnished room, smilingly giving advice to a dismayed client (cf. British Museum Satires No. 11931, &c.). [5] 'Becomes a Counsellor!!! Thanks to his Benefactor.' Scene in court, with a crowded gallery. As one of a row of barristers Leach makes an impassioned appeal to the judge. [6] 'And now a Judge!!! Thanks to the Nation.' From the bench he looks down at a row of barristers.
