Manuscript, in a multiple hands, of a collection of newspaper articles, prints, drawings, letters, and autobiographical text, primarily relating to Grimstone's published writing. The volume includes "my first prose [which] was the following letter inserted in the Polemical Inquirer. The Editors letter to me is on the oppposite side," numerous pieces of prose and verse which appeared in "The Ladies Monthly Museum" and "The Theatrical Inquisitor," and printed musical scores, of which she notes, "Part of my engagement with the proprietors of the Ladies Monthly museum, was to supply new words to the Irish melodies and other airs," as well as numerous business correspondence with editors and personal letters. The volume is prefaced by an introduction in which Grimstone gives an account of her recent "nervous disorder" during which she destroyed much of her writing. She declares, "My Own Scrap Book in which i mean to be as egotistical as I can and talk of nothing but myself, or what relates to myself. If I live to see the hundred and odd years, I am promised; I & this book shall like to converse together when perhaps few others will care to give me companionship. If I die early, then this book will be still a part of me remaining and speaking to those that loved me."

In a 19th century gilt frame with rope twist inner molding, bearing a plaque with artist and subject, verso with a William Macbeth Gallery label, hand written note reads: From Mrs. J.P. Overman, and another label: Yale University Art Gallery, envelope on the back with another William Macbeth label; ss: 17 1/2" h., 14' W., some inpainting where the panel has checked and some crackling, frame reinforced with mahogany. Dorothy Clement was born in County Durham in 1715, the daughter of Hammond Clement (1692-1733) and Priscilla Clement (-1739); when she arrived in London she became a milliner’s assistant. Due to her status, she was never able to marry Sir Edward Walpole (1706-1784) but with him had a son, Edward Jr. (1737-1771), and three daughters: Laura (1734-1813), who became the wife of Frederick Keppel, Bishop of Exeter; Maria (1736-1807) who married first James Waldegrave, Earl Waldegrave, and after his death, William Hanover, Duke of Gloucester; and Charlotte (1738-1789) who wed Lionel Tollemache, Earl of Dysart. She married first, in 1759, James Waldegrave (1714-1763), Earl Waldegrave, and second, in 1766, Prince William Henry Hanover (1743-1805), Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh., Artist attribution identified by Bodo Hofstetter of Christie's, 2004., Miniature set in a case with brightwork decoration on edge band that is hinged at top. A field of woven graying brown hair and one tied lock of white hair are inside the case between the minature and the silk backing embroidered with the initials ELW (for Elizabeth Laura Waldegrave, daughter of the sitter)., Though the embroidered initials would indicate that the portrait is of Elizabeth Laura Waldegrave (1760-1816), it is believed that her portrait was removed and replaced by one of her mother; the miniature there now is smaller than the case. Outside an English country inn, over whose door a sign reads "Duke of Cumberland Roast and boil'd every day", a group of soldiers and sailors laugh at a large caricature of Louis XV on the tavern wall. They sit with two attractive young women around a table on which sits a large pie, a tankard, and a broadsheet with the verses of "Rule Britannia." In the lower left a soldier leans against a drum as he plays his flute; the music sheet in front of him is "God save Great George our King". To the right, a short well-fed man smiles as he stands on tip-toe to reach the height required by the recruiting sergeant. Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of several hundred primarily religious or lighthearted entries, including poetry, recipes, sermons, epitaphs, extracts, and a treatise on the months and phases of the moon. The manuscript contains verses copied from early 17th-century books, including Remains concerning Britain by William Camden and Josuah Sylvester's translation of Du Bartas's Divine weeks & works, as well as more contemporary works, such as The true-Bred Englishman and The mock-mourners, by Daniel Defoe. Several of the religious poems are anti-Catholic, while others focus on the subjects of women and love, Other entries include extracts from sermons of Hugh Latimer and colloquies of Erasmus; recipes, including some from Helmes Trismegistus; extracts from the Journal of Nathaniel Mist; and a lengthy treatise on the months, the phases of the moon, and astrological signs entitled The shepherd's kalendar, which is accompanied by illustrations of astrological signs; a shepherd reaching for the stars;and a diagram with moveable parts, held in place by a pin, and In addition to the illustrations accompanying the astrological treatise, the manuscript contains a drawing of the Virgin Mary titled "Taken oute of T. “Congrégation de Saint-Joseph de Cluny, 21, Rue Méchain, Paris. Madagascar – Normaliennes à la fontaine.” A smiling young woman pours water from her water can while her friends wash clothing, possibly on a small wooden platform. There are several lines of handwriting in French on the back.
"Three elderly hags are dressed as young girls, and leeringly imitate a girlish simper. One (perhaps the schoolmistress) sits on a chair under a tree (right) reading to the others, from 'Juvenel [sic] a Novel'. In her left hand is another book, 'An Ode to Beauty'. Beside her sits a dog clipped in the French manner. The others stand facing her, one closing her eyes and clasping her hands, the other, who holds a fan, leers at her companion. These two wear nosegays. All have high-waisted dress with sashes. The reader wears a straw hat tied on with a scarf. Behind her is a tree on whose trunk letters are carved: 'W' and 'I C' (for the artists). In the background (left) is the corner of a house inscribed 'Young Ladies Genteely Boarded & Educated' by A Bull
