"A portrait of Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845) seated in a Newgate cell, in profile to the right, at a small table. She holds the pages of a large Bible which is supported on a book-box. Beside it are two small books, one of 'Prayers'. The floor is carpeted, but a small barred aperture without glass in the stone wall serves as window.
