Abstract: "A jovial citizen leaning on his tall cane in profile to the right addresses another, who walks off to the right, turning his head to scowl at his interlocutor. The former says: "How do you do my Old Friend - pretty warm by this time I suppose, - a long time in business. - how much might you clear now in the course of last Year?" The other answers: "Whats that to you - skant tell - keep no books, what you want to come the Inquisition rig I suppose, an be d------d to you!" He is obese and is stuffing a 'Banke[rs] Book 17[98]' into his coat-pocket. His dog 'Surly' looks round with contempt at the first speaker, and befouls his cane."--British Museum online catalogue
