Abstract: ALS written by William Blackmore to his sister Blanche Blackmore while travelling to Duluth, Minnesota on board the steamboat Metropolis. The letter describes Blackmore's impressions of the Apostle Island region of Lake Superior and gives an account of his recent experiences in the Middle West, including travel by train as a guest of stockholders and directors of iron mines visiting mines in the Lake Superior region; impressions of Chicago and news received there regarding the Hayden Expedition; and a visit to a lumber mill on Lake Michigan. Blackmore also briefly discusses his plans to continue travel to Sidney, Nebraska, and Denver, Colorado.
