From the collection of the Hartwell family, two generations of American Baptist missionaries serving in China between 1858 and the 1940s.
Temple Hill - Northern Presbyterian Mission - at Chefoo [now Yantai]. Also used by Eltrick family for a home. On the extreme right is the first foreign cemetery in China . In the foreground is a cheap crop food used only by the very poor called Koaliang. Photo was taken before 1890.
