Description
Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive. I know this picture of hungry children devouring their food will have a familiar look & will strike a responsive chord in your heart. This is the youngest group out of 120 that we fed every day. We are now planning on feeding 300 this fall if funds arrive. Some local business-men have offered to help & the N.N.C. has written to ask if we need funds. You can imagine what it means to young lives to be surrounded with love & kindness to be given food & often clothing also, & to be bathed and their terrible skin conditions cured; all this in the midst of the hell of war and destruction, starvation and disease into which their young lives have been plunged. It is more fun to watch them stuff it down than to eat turkey and plum pudding on Christmas day. This is my idea of preaching the Gospel par excellance. This photograph is from the papers of Frank and Verna Garrett who served under the United Christian Missionary Society in the Nanjing area from 1896 to 1932.
