A canal acts as a street in Shaoxing. A small boat navigates the canal. Numerous signs written in Chinese characters are on the tightly packed buildings on either side of the canal. Written to the side of this photograph in its album: "The Venice of China". Also included in the International Mission Photography Archive. This photo is from the papers of Dean Goddard, who was an ABFMS missionary in Ningpo, Che-chiang, China from 1870-1903.
