Nathaniel Jocelyn's autograph manuscript description of the mahogany palette used by the American portrait painter Gilbert Stuart based on Jocelyn's visit with Stuart in August 1823. The description includes a list of the colors used by Stuart, notes on Stuart's techniques for portraying hair and skin tones, and diagrams for comparing the palettes of Stuart and the painter Washington Allston; Jocelyn also records Allston's comments on Stuart's palette.
