With Horace Walpole's epitaph engraved on the base: "Ye smiles & jests still hover round! This is Mirth's consecrated ground: ..." written after her visit to Strawberry Hill in 1774. (See Yale edition of Horace Walpole's correspondence, v. 2 , p. 374-5.)
