Acquired as having been owned by Walpole at Strawberry Hill. Note that this snuffbox is not mounted in gold.

Lewis, December 1948 "as a memento of our beloved Woodcote and my darling Wathen" (see letter dated Dec. 7, 1948, LWL Mss 20, Box: 142, Folder: 7).
