Title devised by curator. Ozias Humphry (1742-1810) was a British miniatures and portrait painter. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1791, and in 1792 he was appointed Portrait Painter in Crayons to the King. In 1797, he began to lose his vision almost completely. He died in London in 1810. No. 16 in the Catalogue of Framed Pictures in the Lewis Walpole Library.

Purchased from A.G. Fisher Collection, Sotheby's, 14 December 1938 to Colnaghi for W.S. Lewis, in same lot with a portrait of Lady Charlotte Maria Waldegrave by the same artist (Lewis Walpole Library Drawings H928 no. 1).
