A snuff box, silver gilt (vermeil) over brass, with a portrait in wax of Madame du Deffand's dog Tonton. She bequeathed the box to Horace Walpole in 1780. It was displayed in the Tribune (Cabinet) in Strawberry Hill.

Text from the 1784 Description of the villa of Horace Walpole, youngest son of Sir Robert Walpole Earl of Orford at Strawberry-Hill: 66 [Tribune]. In the other glass case: ... A gold snuff-box with the image in wax of mad. Du Deffand's dog, Tonton, whom she bequeathed with this suff-box and her MSS. to Mr. Walpole.
