The portion of the stained glass that was formerly at the top of the five windows in the Gallery, which includes the quarterings of the Family of Walpole, embellished by a variety of old mosaic glass. Formerly located in the Gallery of Strawberry Hill. The areas of glass which today appear clear had been painted in Walpole's time with blue enamel, probably once with blue florets. Remnants of the enamel can be seen in several sections, notably along the bottom edge. This piece was placed in the window opposite the chimneypiece -- from "Horace Walpole's Strawberry Hill."
Title devised by curator.
Text from the 1774 and 1784 editions of Description of the villa of Horace Walpole, youngest son of Sir Robert Walpole Earl of Orford at Strawberry-Hill: 64 [Gallery].
