Description: Frederick Douglass, Jr., son of Frederick Douglass, compiled this scrapbook. Fashioned from a general receipt ledger book, this scrapbook contains numerous newspaper and magazine clippings, along with family papers and ephemera. The scrapbook also includes the marriage license for Virginia Hewlitt and Frederick Douglass, Jr. (dated August 4, 1869) and the death notice for Anna Murray Douglass, Frederick Douglass's first wife.
Provenance: Purchased from Walter O. and Linda Evans on the James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection of Negro Arts & Letters Fund, the Edwin J. Beinecke Book Fund, and the Frederick W. and Carrie S. Beinecke Fund for Western Americana, 2020.
