Description: A pair of metal forceps with wooden handles. Gunning Bedford (1806-1870), an American physician, devised a forceps with blades that were lighter and thinner than the blades in previous forceps. The handles included finger rings which gave the operator better traction. O.F. Roler later designed a similar type of forceps.
