Image partially cut out of sheet; the blank parts of the sheet have been trimmed away from the top half of the octagonal decorative border, and from around the figures and bamboo plants.
Laid in at page 377 in Horace Walpole's copy of Matthew Prior's Poems on several occasions.

- Drawing laid in a volume formerly owned by Horace Walpole, with the signature of his mother Catherine Walpole also present. Sold at Strawberry Hill Sale, day iii, lot 196, to Boone for Lord Derby; removed at some time from Knowsley Hall; purchased in 1942, 'in a junk shop in Phenix City, Alabama,' by Mr. Clement S. Eicks, Denton, Maryland. Eicks, July 1954, to W.S. Lewis, by exchange.
