Mounted on page 3 in volume 2 of Horace Walpole's collection of amateur works entitled: A collection of prints engraved by various persons of quality.
Pasted beneath print is a strip of paper, likely trimmed from the verso of the same sheet, which bears a note in the printmaker's hand: The drawing with a pen and [...?], by A. Ostade in possion. of Mr. Harris.
Provenance: Formerly owned by Horace Walpole, who assembled the collection. Sold at Strawberry Hill Sale, day viii, lot 56, to Pickering [London, 1126]; offered in Strong's Catalogue for 1843, lot 1867, and sold at Sotheby's in 1851. At one point owned by John Waldie, Hendersyde, with his bookplate in the volume. Sotheby's, 28 October 1942 (Miscellaneous Sale), to Maggs for W.S. Lewis.
