"The entry of the Bow Street officers into the loft is realistically depicted, the conspirators having letters, the police and objects numbers, referring to notes below the title. Thistlewood stabs one police officer (2), and fires a pistol at another, saying, "Extinguish the lights!" Another Bow Street man (1) fires, saying, "We are Peace Officers lay down your arms"; a third supports the victim, who dies, saying, "Oh God! I am ..." A fourth comes up the stair. Six men collect behind a carpenter's bench on which are their weapons; a black man stands with sword and pistol behind Thistlewood; three men are seen in an inner room. A conspirator ('M') climbs on a carpenter's chest to escape from a high window (right), another raises a sash to escape on the left. All wear top-hats. Pikes, musket, &c., are on the ground.
