- Abstract
-
"Princess Charlotte (left) and the young Duke of Devonshire (right) dance a minuet; they are a handsome pair, not caricatured. She wears a tiny crown on the back of her head as an ornament, her clinging dress has a small train, and she holds up the skirt in her finger-tips. He wears court dress with a sword, and holds his opera-hat by one point in his left hand, the right arm slightly extended. They are side by side, looking towards each other. In the background, left and right, are two groups of much-interested spectators, the ladies are seated, the men stand."--British Museum online catalogue
