A medal commemorating the resignation of Sir Robert Walpole from the Office of Prime Minister. On the obverse side, Sir Robert Walpole is shown seated, his elbow resting upon a bag of money, a reference to the accusations of corruption and bribery. In his right hand he holds a paper inscribed with IAN. 18 1742. On the reverse side of the medal is stamped with a design showing a fortified gateway with a pole bearing a human head mounted at the top, a pun on the name Wall-Pole. See britishmuseum.org, M8460.
