"A young and very smart officer lunges forward, pointing his tasselled cane at one of a line of soldiers who stand rigidly at attention full face, but with 'Eyes right' (the words inscribed at the end of the cane). He shouts: "Hold up your Head that Man there!" He holds his (sheathed) sword, attached to a sword-belt, in his left hand. The soldiers wear plumed shakos, long gaiters, and shoes with very pointed toes. Behind is a row of spectators, men and women, and one little boy. "A caricature of Hamilton, in back view, in the form of a porcelain vase standing on a (chipped) base inscribed: 'D AM.N.Q.V.I.Σ.Σ.Ω.N'. The wig, with black bag, forms the cover of the vase. The shoulders are enormously wide and curved, with large projecting epaulettes. The curved body of the vase, broadened by the arms, dwindles to the coat-tails, and rests on a stem consisting of two short and bulging legs terminating in ungainly buckled shoes. His bare feet project from the striped duvet which is his only covering; on his nightcap is an insect. The plaster has fallen from the wall leaving large patches of brick; on it hang his sword, cloak, cocked hat, and a bust portrait of Frederick the Great inscribed 'F. 11'. "A street scene lit by a lamp projecting from a high brick wall: 'Maiden Lane'. A tall man, very thin and pale, walks (right to left), wearing spectacles, a cane in his right hand. His shoulders are thickly sprinkled with powder, cf. BMSat 8190, &c. He terrifies an Irish fishwife, who holds up both arms to avert the spectre, turning away with a terrified stare, saying, "Governor Wall's Ghost! - [the only title] by J .... s!" Her basket of fish falls to the ground. The man is corpse-like, and his clothes seem to hang on a skeleton. The woman is stout and very ragged. Beside her a tunnel penetrates the wall, slanting down from the street-level, under an arch inscribed 'Cyder Cell[ars]', a famous night-resort in Maiden Lane."--British Museum online catalogue

"One of a set of four hunting-scenes with punning titles, with the same signatures and imprint; they have pleasant landscape backgrounds, with clouds. A rider (left) has been flung over his horse's head and lies on his face screaming; the horse falls into a deep ditch edged by a fence (right). From one pocket spout the contents of a bottle of wine, from the other two hounds are tugging a cold chicken, other hounds are making with fierce intentness towards the chicken.
