Two young women (right) hold up festoons of the immensely long drapery, the end of which trails across the floor and is worried by a small dog, shaved in the French manner. The glass is surmounted by an earl's coronet and decorated by triple ostrich plumes, suggesting that the lady, who wears a loose wrapper, may be Lady Jersey. The mirror is lit by two candles. Through a window (right) is a crescent moon, sinking into clouds. The second attendant wears a hat, suggesting that she is a milliner. Both are dressed in the short-waisted fashion of the day (cf. "Two men in back view walk arm-in-arm, one (left) is short and fat, the other tall and thin. The former wears a short coat or spencer over his tail-coat, with wrinkled top-boots and a round hat, and carries a riding-switch. His hair is in a short queue with projecting side-pieces. The other wears a cylindrical hat with brim curled up at the sides, a coat reaching almost to his ankles with five capes forming a point in the centre of the back, with shoes tied with strings. He carries a bludgeon. The shoulders of both men are frosted with powder, see BMSat 8190. There is a landscape background. The spencer was a short double-breasted overcoat without tails called after George John Spencer, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758-1834), who is probably here caricatured. Gillray anticipates the earliest use of the word (1796) in the 'O.E.D.' The name derives from Earl Spencer's bet in 1792 that he would invent a coat which should become the fashion. A design resembling a high-relief depicts three amoretti attend the toilet of an old hag. The cestus of Venus is a huge pad which one of the attendants ties round the old woman's waist as another attendant holds up a mirror. A third cupid ties the girdle as the arrows fall from the quiver on his back. Behind him, the altar of Venus has tipped over, the fire still burning. A copy of Ovid's Art of love protrudes from the old woman's pocket.

"The Prince of Wales, languid with repletion, leans back in an arm-chair, holding a fork to his mouth. His waistcoat is held together by a single button across his distended stomach. On his right a circular table covered with the remains of a meal, with decanters of 'Port' and 'Brandy', a castor of 'Chian'. Under the table, partly covered by the cloth, are empty wine-bottles. Behind the chair (right) a brimming chamber-pot stands on a table or commode on which are long bills: 'Poulterers Bill . . . unpaid, Butcher's Bill . . . unpaid, Baker's Bill . . . unpaid', and (on the ground) 'Doctors Bill'. In the foreground (right) lie a dice-box and dice with three books: 'Debts of Honor Unpaid', 'Newmarket List', and 'Faro Partnership Account Self Archer Hobart & Co.' Above the Prince's head is a round picture in an elaborate frame inscribed 'L. Comoro, Ætat. 199 [sic]': a half length portrait of a man with a long beard drinking from a glass inscribed 'Aqua'.
