"Portrait of Philippe Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, bust directed to left, looking to front, with brown hair and beard, and black robe emblazoned with a white Malta cross; within oval."--British Museum online catalogue and "From 'Portraits des grands hommes, femmes illustres et sujets mémorables de France', a series of colour prints executed by Antoine Sergent, Marie Louise Cernel, Louis Le Coeur, Jean Baptiste Morret, Ridé and L. Roger, and published in Paris by Pierre Blin in 1786-1792. The series consists of a frontispiece, a lettered dedication to the King, ninety-two portraits and ninety-two figurative scenes in relation to the portraits (historical events, allegories, reproduction of a painting in the case of Poussin...).
