Copy of a letter written by Cardinal Retz in Rome, where he had just arrived (Nov. 30, 1654) on his flight from France, where Mazarin had him imprisoned. He is protesting here about the violation of his rights. Dated Dec. 14, 1654. A French version of this letter was published in Paris in 1654. Ms. Title and 73 pages, numbered ff. 46-83.

The writer gives his penetrating criticism of the performance of the opera Merope, of each singer's performance, of the choreography, the mise-en-scene, the costumes, etc.

This tragicomedy was performed apparently under Francesco Boccalari in 1668.
