Lewis Douglass, son of Frederick Douglass, compiled this scrapbook. It contains numerous newspaper and magazine clippings, correspondence, and ephemera including the a U. S. Senate ticket for the Andrew Johnson impeachment and an autographed letter from Frederick Douglass to Lewis Douglass, dated July 21, 1869.
The scrapbook also includes two inscriptions from Lewis Douglass: one reading "To be Given to my nephew Haley G. Douglass" and another reading, "It contains the history of my working in the GPO and several other matters. This book will be given on my death to Haley G. Douglass" dated August 2, 1907, Washington, D.C."
The scrapbook is fashioned from an expense ledger for the Central Overland California and Pikes Expense Company, circa 1861.
