It records the journey from Zanesville, Ohio, to Independence, and in more detail the preparations for the journey at Independence, the country traversed and the camping places along the Platte and Sweetwater, Sublette's and Hudspeth's Cut-offs, and the Applegate Trail and Lassen Road to the Feather River Valley.
