Beside him is a lady, turning in her saddle to look through an eye-glass; a long green veil streams from her bell-shaped top-hat. A horse falls on its head, the falling man is taking snuff. "Three fashionable dandies (see No. 13029) in a well-furnished room. One (left) sings, seated, and with a leg resting on a second (lyre-backed) chair; he leans sentimentally, hand on heart, towards a lutenist reclining on a (Regency) sofa playing an ornate curiously shaped instrument. The third stands behind the sofa, playing a flageolet, and admiring himself in a mirror above the ornate fireplace. The vocalist holds an open music-book: 'Love has eyes.' On the floor beside him are two others: 'The Lovesick Swain set to Music' and 'Our Warbling Notes and Ivory lutes Shall ravish every ear.' Two whole length portraits flank the mirror, one of a lady in quasi-Elizabethan dress, the other of a man similarly dressed, both having pinched waists and full busts. Below one is a picture of 'Vacuna' [Goddess of rural leisure], a blowzy woman lying under a tree; below the other, a grotesque 'Narcissus' admires his reflection. "The scene is a Drawing-room in the court sense held at the Queen's House (now Buckingham Palace): the men wear court-suits with gold lace and bag-wigs or uniform; above the doorway appears the lower part of a portrait of the Queen enthroned, with one foot on a footstool. On the right is a portrait of the Prince Regent in hussar uniform standing by a charger. In the doorway, which is the centre of the design, an enormously obese man is jammed against an equally obese woman, their paunches dovetailing; she stands on one toe on his gouty foot. Behind them is the inner room, where heads are seen crammed together. In the foreground an officer steps on a lady's train (left) slitting her gown. A hussar officer (right), amused at the struggle in the doorway, drives his sabre against a much-distressed lady. He has a moustache, and is perhaps a German in attendance on the Prince of Hesse-Homburg. Behind is another officer, also with a moustache (cf. No. 13029). "One of a pair, with the same signatures and imprint, see No. 12929. Two couples dance with vigour, holding hands in a line, the ladies facing right, the men left. Other couples stand. Fashionable dress is burlesqued, the ladies with very décolletée and short-waisted dress, with short skirts, very wide, flounced, and projecting. One has a grotesque coiffure, hair strained into a pyramid, bound with ribbon, and topped by an absurd flower. The dandified men wear knee-breeches or tight pantaloons with high collars; hair cropped on the neck and projecting like an inverted basin. "Heading to A New Song, Written & now Singing by Mr Briant, of the Royal Coburg Theatre, and likewise by Mr Lancaster at the Olympic Theatre, with rapturous applause. The interior of a watch-house. A night-watchman pushes a countryman towards a door leading to 'the black hole', another stands by with lantern and bludgeon, a third looks on, laughing, while a dim parasite holds the door open. The constable of the night (see No. 14326, &c), fat and jovial, sits in a hooded chair behind a table on which are candle, frothing tankard, book, ink-pot, &c. Looby relates, in eight eight-line verses, how he is cheated and ill-used: 'And All for Life in London --' (see No. 14320, &c). Verse 6 begins: Says I--I've Toms and Jerry's seen Throughout this famous city But Lord they make themselves such apes I think it bees a pity ...
