A Londres, le 25 novembre 1754": p. 127-131. It was this letter that called forth the ironical defence of the Duke of Cumberland, published, London, 1756, under title: Reasons humbly offered, to prove, that the letter printed at the end of the French Memorial of justification, is a French forgery and falsly ascribed to His R--l H--ss., and Issued by the French government, and transmitted to the courts of Europe as a justification of the war with England ... In this volume was printed for the first time, in a French translation, Washington's journal of the expedition of 1754, which, with other papers, had been found by the French at Fort Necessity after the departure of the English troops ... The volume also contains translations of Braddock's papers captured at the battle of the Monongahela ..."--Boston athenæum, Catalogue of the Washington coll., 1897, p. 312.
