"On the pavement outside a pawnshop are a man selling pamphlets and a woman with household goods tied up in two handkerchiefs. The man is a ragged shambling scarecrow, tall and thin, with a battered top-hat, shock of hair, and huge whiskers (signs of dandyism). On his tall pole is a placard 'NO POPERY', the latter word bisected by the pole. He squints downwards, saying, 'a full account of the Interest taken by the whole House'. The woman, stout and proletarian, wearing a red cloak and an apron, looks up at the placard, saying, 'No Pop--ery eh? I suppose since Old Grindall's Sons got into the Parliament, they are asham'd of their Trade--well there is plenty of other pop-ery's about--& as to Interest they always took enough of that you ugly Scarecrow.' On the closed shop-door (left) are the three balls sign and Pawnbrokers '[M]oney Lent'. In the window hang watches, &c. "Ministers and others strike at a shuttlecock above their heads inscribed 'Speakers Warrant'; among the feathers sits a little man holding a crowned staff; he says: "Curse this game I dont Like it I never experienced Such boning about in my life, I wonder when you will have done"; he is Colman the Serjeant-at-Arms. Eldon, in his Chancellor's wig and gown and holding the Purse of the Great Seal, is the centre of a close group; he says: "Dont knock it here we have not power to Strike it". Perceval, in back view, wears his Chancellor of the Exchequer's gown and holds a document inscribed 'Majority'; he says: "Curse the thing I wish I had never Seen it away with it". A second judge whose head is partly visible behind Eldon is probably Ellenborough. On the right is Gibbs, holding a paper inscribed 'Attorn[ey Gen]eral'. He says: "D-n it Ill hit it as Hard as I can tho I'm almost afraid to meddle with it". There are two others in the group, one is silent, the other resembles Canning (not in the Ministry); he says: "Sure honey Right or wrong I always stick to the Strongest Side so do let me have a Slap at it". The sturdiest striker stands in back view on the left, with a paper inscribed 'Read Bow Street' projecting from his pocket; he says: "I cant Read it Die Veneris! why its Spanish to me we dont understand Them there warrants". On the extreme left stands the Speaker, Abbot, with a bat inscribed 'Double'; he says: "Dont Strike it to me again Ill have nothing more to do with it I've sent it to Bow Street". The bats used are not the usual long-handled battledores as (e.g.) in British Museum Satires No. 9716, but short-handled wooden bats. "See BM Satires No. 16435. A pretty girl, perhaps the subject of BM Satires No. 16435, lies in a bed drawn close to a fire, indicated by corner of chimney-piece, fender, and guard (left). She is framed in drawn-back curtains, lit by firelight, and is wrapped in a tufted white counterpane from under which one swathed foot extends towards the fire. An African woman known as 'Sartje' or the Hottentot Venus stands, left, in profile, a smoking pipe in her mouth and tall staff in her right hand. She has an enormous posterior and stands nude except for a pair of garters around her calves, a thin girdle round her waist, a beaded headdress and beaded necklace. Grenville stands behind her but looks back over his shoulder at her. Dressed in formal court dress, he too is depicted with an enormous posterior. Grenville says: Well I never expected Broad Bottoms from Africa! but one should never dispair! Mind Sherry dont let your Fireey nose touch the Venus for if theres any conbustibls about her we shall be blown up!!" In his pocket is a paper inscribed Chaselor [sic]. Between them, half-kneeling, Sheridan measures her bottom using a compass and answers: I shall be carefull your Lordship! but such a spanker it beats your Lordship's hollow."

In his left hand he holds a wine-glass in which kneels a tiny screaming Napoleon, submerged to the waist, with both arms raised above his head. His left foot rests regally upon a cushion, but the slashed shoe indicates that this is on account of gout. He wears dress of ancien régime type, with the ribbon and star of St. Louis. "George IV as the 'Great Babe' lies asleep in his cradle rocked by Lady Conyngham, while Wellington, seated before a pier-glass, places the crown on his own head. The glass reflects the dark emaciated features of British Museum Satires No. 15520. The Duke wears a uniform with boots and sword. On a table below the glass the sceptre and orb lie on a cushion. Lady Conyngham, with a towering coiffure as in British Museum Satires No. 15508, croons: Oh slumber my darling | The time may soon come | When thy rest may be broken | By Trumpet & Drum [the last three words in large letters]. The infant sucks a thumb; a gouty foot projects from the coverlet. On the floor is a line of toys: a sailing boat on wheels, a model of Buckingham Palace reconstructed by Nash as in British Museum Satires No. 15668, a giraffe (see British Museum Satires No. 15425), a Life Guard on a toy horse, a Foot-Guard, a dismantled or unfinished ship resting on a prostrate toy soldier.
