"'Cits' (i.e. citizens) ride (left to right) (types of vulgar horsemanship, cf. BMSats 7233, 7242) in a cloud of dust, following a crowded stage-coach inscribed 'To the Races'. A rough two-wheeled cart, crammed with a family party, is drawn by a cantering pony. A signpost points 'To the Race Ground'. A suburban setting is given by the country box and 'grounds' of a 'cit', with a notice-board: 'Spring Blunderbusss on a new Construction - Planted in Various Paths of my Domain & whosown Trample Down or pull up the Shrubs in this Garden shall be Prosecuted - Deputy Dump'. In front of the house the owner (?) and his wife look over the paling at the race-goers. The house is a square box, whose small scale is indicated by the size of a pot-plant on the flat roof; on this are also figures of Neptune, Harlequin, and Mercury. "Illustration to a song engraved in three columns below the title: A scene on the shore, with a frigate in the offing. A grotesque naval officer, with wooden leg and black patch over one eye, takes the wrist of a young sailor of feminine appearance who holds a pistol. In the background (right) a dead sailor lies across the body of a woman. The song relates that Billy Taylor was taken by a press-gang; his sweetheart dressed as a sailor to follow him, but discovered his inconstancy with 'a lady gay', and shot him With his fair one in his hand. "The interior of Dulwich College Chapel. A stout man, probably the Master, wearing a gown, stands in a pulpit or desk (left), a large book before him, his eyes and mouth twisted in a sly leer. Below him (right) the figure of Edward Alleyne has risen from a tombstone and stands (half length) holding up the horizontal stone. He is surrounded by clouds. He wears hat, ruff, and a gown which differs from that of the living man chiefly in being furred. The figure is copied (in reverse) from the whole length portrait of Alleyne at Dulwich College. On the stone, beneath a coat of arms, is the inscription, a strip along the left being cut off by the lower margin of the print: 'Sacred | the Memory of | Edward Alleyne | Founder of this | College | Life Nov 26 | 1626 Æ 63 | Likewise | Joan his Dear | Wife who F | race 28 June 1623.' Inside a wig-maker's shop a bald man sitting on a stool squirms in agony as an elder woman attends to the wound on his forehead. Another man, standing to their right, looks on with visible discomfort. To their left is a table laid with scissors, razors, pliers, basin, small length of cloth and a bottle of 'Jalap.' A cat sits next to the cloth. In the background, on a wide window-sill, are wig-maker's tools and a wig in progress. Several finished wigs hang on pegs above the window. A number of boxes with the customers' names on them stand on a shelf above the door and an almanack hangs on the wall behind it. The door is wide open revealing in the background two men fighting a duel in front of the 'Crown' tavern, surrounded by several onlookers

An allegorical representation of France with Liberty as a young woman bound and being dragged from a temple, Libertas, by French soldiers to face a angry mob, two decapitated heads at the base of the stairs. One soldier breaks a staff with a liberty cap at the top. A woman kneels a fire which consumes a spinning wheel and is fed books carried by laborers. A crowd of artists, musicians, carpenters, smiths, weavers and other tradesmen are roughly pushed away from the temple by a soldier. In the background a church which has been turned into a theatre attracts a large crowd to a production of "The massacre at Paris."

"A stout farmer rides (left to right) past an inn on a cow. The cow befouls and tramples on a paper inscribed 'Tax on Ho[rses]'. The farmer looks triumphantly over his right shoulder at a group of spectators standing at the door of the inn, and snaps his fingers, saying, "Pitt be D------d". A basket containing poultry hangs from the saddle. Part of the inn is on the left of the design, its sign is a stout man holding a foaming tankard gazing at three sacks, inscribed 'Joe Jolly 1784' (a '7' appears to have been etched over the '4'). On 27 November 1784 one Jonathan Thatcher rode his cow to and from the market of Stockport in protest against the horse-tax.
