- Abstract:
- ADS written by William Barret Travis, petitioning Luke Lesassier,alcalde of Austin, for appointment as attorney representing heirs of Eli Holly. Holly, a United States citizen from Alabama, had died in San Felipe on September 7, leaving "property consisting of slaves or servants." The document lists names of Holly's nine children living in Alabama, whom Travis supposed to be his heirs. At the end of the petition is a holograph note written and signed by Lesassier, September 12, 1833, appointing Travis as attorney. The document is accompanied by a typed transcript.
- Description:
- Luke Lesassier was a lawyer and served as alcalde of Austin., Purchased from Edward Eberstadt & Sons on the William Robertson Coe Fund, 1956., and William Barret Travis emigrated to Texas from Alabama in 1831. In 1832 he settled in San Felipe, where he practiced law. Travis died while commanding Texas soldiers at the siege of the Alamo in 1836.
