Abstract:
Juan Riobó's diary describes his 1779 expedition from San Blas, Mexico up the west coast of Baja California to discover a Northwest passage. The diary describes local Indians (without identifying them) and the terrain. This item appears to be a contemporary copy.

Abstract:
An account of his voyage from Pike, New York to California by way of Panama to work in the gold mines. When his health was failing, he took up farming of onions as a livelihood; he discovered this occupation had its hazards in the dry season. He did not marry, and decided that after seventeen years, he would remain in California.

Abstract:
Sixty-three documents relating to real estate transactions of Elbert P. Jones in San Francisco, California, between 1847 and 1851. The papers include thirty printed bonds and receipts issued by the Town of San Francisco and completed in manuscript and signed by Jones, George Hyde, 1st Alcalde of San Francisco, William A. Leidesdorff, and Jasper O'Farrell; seven property sale agreements between Jones and Jonathan D. Stevenson and William C. Parker, and a duplicate copy of a lease between Jones and Jeremiah Canty; fifteen receipts for land surveys conducted for Jones by William M. Eddy; seven summonses, judgments, tax receipts, etc.; and three maps of Jones's real estate holdings in San Francisco, mounted on paper and bound together. Several of the documents refer to Yerba Buena, as San Francisco was called prior to March 1847.

Abstract:
Account, by Fray Juan Antonio Garciá Riobó, of Ignacio Arteaga's expedition to continue Cuadra's discoveries of 1775. Arteaga left San Blas in 1779, explored Bucareli Sound, the Northwest Coast to Mt. St. Elias, returned by way of Cape Mendocino and San Francisco, and set out on a second journey to San Blas. Original (in folder 1) scanned.

Fray Juan Riobó was chaplain of the frigates la Princesa and la Favorita on a voyage under the command of Ignacio Arteaga to discover a Northwest passage north of San Francisco., The manuscript is endorsed: "Diario de la expedicion, que se hizo por Mandano de 1779, hasta la altura de 54 grados, y fundacion de la Mission de Sn. Gabriel. Car. 5, Leg. 6 n. 12.", and The manuscript probably once belonged to the library of the College of San Fernando. Given to the library by William Robertson Coe.
