"The King and Queen are tied together back to back, by a ribbon inscribed 'The Matrimonial Knot. Keep thee only.. unto her, so long as ye both shall live.' The Queen (left), richly dressed and with three feathers in her hair, stands looking towards Justice, who takes her right hand. She says, her hand on her breast, "Nothing but death shall e'er divorce my dignities" ['Henry VIII', III. i]. Justice stands among clouds; she says: "Your exemplary conduct is worthy imitation, as during your husband's ill treatment every effort you exerted to reclaim him, which failing, the world must approve your seeking refuge in the wholesome and protecting laws of your country.--I will be your guide." Brougham stands on the extreme left, poorly characterized but holding a rolled document inscribed 'To Mr Brougham'; he says: "Let slanderous tounges [sic] say what they will they are "Trifles light as air" ['Othello', III. iii] for "She is every inch a Queen." [Adapted from 'Lear', IV. vi]." The King leans against the bond that joins them, straining hard to break it; he puts his hands on the shoulders of Castlereagh who holds him round the waist, the first of a chain of three who pull hard to help him to break loose. The King: "Heigho! how to get un-married; thats the question! There is but little trouble in tying the knot, but your quizzes of the cloth draw it so d----nd tight, Pull away Derry, Pull away Deary Pull away Doctor." Sidmouth tugs at Lady Hertford (or Conyngham) whose arms are round Castlereagh. Castlereagh answers: "If we could entice that blind Lady from her, we might do some good." "A plump Jewess leans over the wooden barrier across the street doorway, to kiss a sucking-pig which her husband holds out to her, affectionately putting his arm round her shoulders. He is bearded, with a long coat, with a bag slung from his arm, showing that he deals in old clothes. A sow (right) looks up anxiously at the pig. A comely young woman wearing a necklace and ear-rings leans over Mrs. Shevi, admiring the pig. From an adjacent window or doorway, an elderly Jew leans, registering outraged horror. The doorway is vaulted, and has a heavy wooden door. A caged bird hangs just inside. "A bear (right), wearing Cossack trousers and an imperial crown surmounted by a double-headed eagle, runs off to the right. He carries a piece of mountainous country inscribed Greece on which kneels a tiny Greek in profile to the left, exclaiming Save me from my Friends. The bear (the Tsar) tramples on the neck of a turkey, with the bearded, turbaned, and terrified head of the Sultan, which lies on its back. The bear looks fiercely over his shoulder towards an angry English sailor who sits in an open boat with a cannon mounted in the bows. The sailor wears a top-hat with a ribbon inscribed Navar[ino, see BM Satires No. 15507, &c]; he has dropped an oar to lean back, extending his clenched fist towards the bear, and shouting: Halloo--master-drop that, or d--me I'll run along side of you, in no time. Cannon-balls are piled in the stern; above them flies a Union flag topped by oak leaves. On the farther side of the water (left) stands Charles X, a capering French fop in the dress of the ancien régime, with a cane under his arm. He says: By gar he is take away all de Greece. "Princess Caroline (left) sits in an ornate oval bath in a small boarded room. Bergami stands in the bath (right), draping himself in a towel from the waist down, and splashing water at his companion, who extends her arms towards him, with an encouraging smile. A man and woman, evidently Majocchi and Demont, peep from behind the door (right). On the bath is a Maltese cross (see British Museum Satires No. 13810), placed hatchment-wise between supporters, the Lion and Unicorn, who lie with closed and averted eyes. The Princess's feathered hat and the miniature of Bergami (cf. British Museum Satires No. 14103) hang on the wall (left). Beside her on a camp-stool are a bottle of 'Brandy' [see British Museum Satires No. 14175] and a decanter of 'Essence of Bergami'.
