The appointment as elder was given to John Whitmer at a conference in Fayette, Seneca County, New York. Both signatures appear to be in the same hand, possibly Cowdery’s writing.

Abstract:
Four salted paper prints made during the Raynolds expedition of 1859-1860 depicting Laramie Hills with tipis in the foreground; a fort, possibly Fort Union; two sets of group portraits of Arapahos, one of them of Arapaho chiefs Eagle Head, Split-nose, Little Owl, and Friday. There are 17 drawings by Hutton, 11 of them of western views, most probably made during the Raynolds expedition, depicting Fort Sarpy on the Yellowstone; Eagle Creek on the upper Missouri River; the valley of Wind River; Red Canon Creek, Big Horn Mountains; and Lodge Pole Peak and Crow Peak in the Black Hills. There are nine other drawings present, six by three other identified artists: R. W. Ingle, W. Taylor, Jr., and William Rich Hutton, James' brother. The drawing by William Rich Hutton is a view of San Francisco. Accompanied by a document made out to Miss Ellen S. Hutton in thanks for her work as church organist.

ADS by Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery dated June 9, 1830, stating that "License Liberty Power and Authority [is] given to Christian Whitmer signifying & proving that he is a Teacher of this Church of Christ established and regularly organized in these last days ..." The document also states that Whitmer was baptized and received into the Church according to the Articles of the Covenants of the Church and ordained under the hand of Oliver Cowdery, Second Elder of the Church.

All blanks filled in with the following information included: Jerry Hudson was admitted as a member by Sam Norman on June 23, 1903. Twelve stamps affixed, each stamped with dates from 1903-1904.
Manuscript perpetual obligation bond, on parchment, issued by a Dutch water board responsible for the upkeep of local dykes. The records of interest paid the bearer are written on the bond through the year 1943; thereafter the interest was recorded on the paper talon which accompanies the bond.
