Formerly attributed to George Vertue., From a group of images thought to have been originally drawn by John Rous and traced by an unidentified artist for Horace Walpole; later engraved for his Historic doubts on the life and reign of Richard III. See London edition, 1768 and Strawberry Hill edition 1770., and Manuscript Catalogue of 1763, but recorded in the Description of Strawberry Hill, 1774, among the rare books of prints and drawings in the library.
Five men, heads and shoulders only. Three of the men face each other. The man on the top left wears a nightcap and pince-nez on the tip of his long, hooked nose. The man on the top right looks down and wears the garb of a clergyman with a bishop's mitre on his head. The man on the bottom left wears a wig, a high stock and jabot and has a long nose. The man in the bottom center looks cross-eyed at the other men. The man on the bottom right has a very bulbous nose and face

Pair of wash drawings, one above the other, showing overall and detail views of the bronze hand kept by Horace Walpole in the Tribune at Strawberry Hill. Described by Walpole as "an Egyptian hieroglyphic hand," this sculpture is shown in the top drawing to stand upright with the wrist as its base. The thumb, index finger, and middle finger point upwards with items balancing upon their tips; the last two fingers are curled inward towards the palm. The bottom drawing shows in detail the pictures and symbols that decorate the palm and back side of the hand; these include a snake that wraps around the entirety of the hand
