Walpole believed the miniature to have been painted by Samuel Cooper, but it has since been reattributed to Nicholas Dixon; see Christie's sale catalogue "Fine miniatures, enamels and object of art and vertu", 6 July 1965, lot 36., and A print entitled "Lucy Barlow alias Waters", published by Harding's father Sylvester in 1802 for The biographical mirrour, was probably engraved from this drawing; see Lewis Walpole Library call no.: SH Contents H263 no. 16.
