"A game of billiards is being played on a table, one corner of which only is visible, so curiously elongated that it gives the impression of a triangular table. The two players stand by the corner of the table, the one who is about to make a stroke appears from his leanness, frogged coat, and long pigtail queue to be a Frenchman; he leans over the table in profile to the left, wearing pince-nez. His opponent watches him, standing on top-toe, his cue held over his left shoulder, his face screwed up in anxiety; he wears a bag-wig. A number of spectators look on with expressions of amusement or concern: on the right two men stand together grinning; on the left a man watches open-mouthed; behind the table a man watches with an expression of alarm, another takes cover behind him with a grin; a small boy stands beside them. In the foreground are two dogs, one, a greyhound, stands between the player's legs. On the wall behind the table is a rack of cues and two clock-faced scoring boards both pointing to the figure X. On the right is a door, on the left a small casement window. Pictures and prints decorate the wall (left to right): a print of Wilkes (bust) with two caps of liberty; a print of a nymph and satyr; a print of a man seated, three quarter length; a print of a man and woman whole-length; two framed landscapes."--British Museum online catalogue

"The interior of a carcass-butcher's slaughter-house, the carcasses of animals suspended from the wall. Through the doorway (l.) is seen a rock rising from the sea on which stands a bellowing bull; at the base of the rock is a British fleet. Napoleon, the butcher, with cleaver and knife, makes frantic efforts to reach the (distant) bull, but is restrained by Talleyrand who holds him round the waist. He wears top-boots, one inscribed '7 Leagues', with apron, and rolled-up shirt-sleeves, showing 'R T' [? 'Returned Transport'] branded on his left. arm. On one flap of Talleyrand's oddly shaped cocked hat is a cross, to indicate the ci-devant Bishop of Autun. The head of the Russian bear looks in at the door, gazing menacingly at Napoleon. In the foreground lies a bulky body from which head, hands, and feet have been chopped; to it is skewered a paper: 'Germanic Body'; the severed r. hand lies on a paper inscribed 'Hanover'. On the extreme left. is a round wicker cage surmounted by the Papal tiara, inscribed: 'From Rome and Not worth Killing'; it contains a fox and other small animals. On the extreme right. is a dog-kennel inscribed 'Prussia' and 'Put up to Fatten'; from it a lean greyhound on a short chain puts out its head to lap greedily at a trough of 'Consular Whipt Syllabub'. Behind this is the butcher's block, on which lies a cleaver; blood drips from it into a receptacle inscribed 'Treasury'. Behind Napoleon, in a trough inscribed 'Jaffa Cross Breed', are the bodies of six turbaned Moslems; blood gushes from the trough into a tank inscribed 'Glory'. On the wall hang carcasses, &c. (l. to r.): a ram ticketed 'True Spanish - Fleec'd'; a bleeding calf's head, a simian creature with a tail labelled 'Native Breed'; an ass, ticketed 'From Switzerland', a bloated pig 'From Holland'. Below the title: 'New Style - No Quarter Day!' The verses are a dialogue between 'Boney and Talley' on the possibilities of plunder and conquest. Talleyrand restrains Bonaparte from a mad rush at the bull, regardless of the intervening water. ..."--British Museum online catalogue

This edition bore the publication line "Published by J. Ginger, 169 Piccadilly" and the printing line "Printed by D.N. Shury, Berwick Street, SOHO." "Britannia, tall and powerful, holds Napoleon across her knee, and raises a birch rod to thrash his bleeding posterior. She wears Roman draperies, with corslet and plumed helmet. The rod is tied with a ribbon inscribed: 'United Kingdoms'. She says: "There take that and that and that, and be carefull not to provoke my Anger more." He exclaims: "oh forgive me this time and I never will do so again, oh dear! oh dear! you'll entirely spoil the Honors of the Sitting." Beside Britannia (left) are her spear and sword; beside Napoleon (right) his huge cocked hat and sabre. The scene is by the sea (left), with a fleet of retreating vessels flying the tricolour flag. On the right is a cliff on which a small British lion lies on a scroll inscribed: 'Qui uti scit ei bona' [good things to him who knows how to use them]."--British Museum online catalogue

A large clumsy dog (left) oddly like a bear, its collar inscribed 'Towler', sits under an oak surrounded by puppies; all bark savagely at a group of animals representing France and subject countries. Napoleon is an ape, who pushes forward an ass laden with 'Swiss Cheese'; he holds a staff on which are shackles and a cap of Liberty, and turns his head to snarl. The British dog barks "Keep off Boney"; all the puppies bark "Keep off". By the aged oak, up which ivy climbs, is a scroll inscribed 'Union' [cf. BMSat 10103, &c.]. The 'Gallic Mongrel', its collar inscribed 'Snarl', retaliates: "I bark at you I bite these". 'These' are animals to whose leg or collar is attached a heavy weight inscribed 'Liberty'. They are 'Signor', an Italian greyhound, and 'Mynheer', a ringed pig or boar. A similar weight is attached to the (Swiss) ass
