"An ugly decrepit old doctor, in old-fashioned dress and wig, stands with his back to the fire (right) receiving a pair of country-bumpkins, shown in by a servant out of livery, who stands at the door (left), grinning delightedly. The man, a burly fellow, is followed by his plainly-dressed and anxious wife. He says: "Do you see Doctor my Dame and I become [sic] to ax your advice--we both of us eat well, and drink well, and sleep well--yet still we be somehow queerish". The doctor, holding his cane to his nose, answers: "You eat well--you drink well and you sleep well--very good-- You was perfectly right in coming to me, for depend upon it I will give you something that shall do away all these things". On the chimney-piece are jars and bottles with a bust of 'Galen', Against the wall is a heavy book-case with glass doors containing large volumes."--British Museum online catalogue

"An elderly lawyer (left) reads a will to the legatees, who are grouped round a table: a young couple looking slyly at each other, a fat and startled butcher, a drunken dishevelled butler, an elderly doctor smelling his cane, a would-be fashionable in a wrinkled Jean-de-Bry coat (cf. British Museum Satires No. 9425) and tasselled Hessians. The lawyer reads: "The Genuine Will of Timothy Whimsey Esqr of Whimsey Hall--I give and bequeath to my young Wife the bulk of my Fortune for the trouble she has had with me, and to my secretary Tom Cunningham I bequeath the said Wife . . . as by amourous glances, I have at different times noticed, I think there will be no objection on either side--To my old Friend Briskett the Butcher, I leave him a small portion of common honesty and advise him to cut his steaks thicker in future--To Timothy my Butler, I leave sixty pounds per Annum for his extreme Sobriety!!!--to Doctor Bolus I leave all the pill boxes--phials--potions--lotions &c &c &c accumulated at different periods, and deposited in my corner cupboard--and lastly I leave my Nephew Tim Dash--a small portion of advice viz--not to act and dress so like a puppy in future!!!" "A ... sailor, arm-in-arm with a woman, stands in front of the door of a corner-house abutting on a quay. She is gaily dressed, holding a parasol, and slung with gold chains, a miniature (cf. British Museum Satires No. 10894) hangs from one, a watch and seals from the other. Above the door is a board: 'Lodgings for Single Men and Their Wives'. On the door is an inscription with a pointing hand: 'Please to ring the Bell'. The sailor says: "Why Nan-this is the very birth, we have been so long looking for". He holds a telescope, and wears a ribbon inscribed 'Death or Victory'. From her feathered hat streams a ribbon inscribed 'England expects every Man To do his Duty.' She wears a belt inscribed 'Belly Rough One' [Bellerophon] above the figure '74'. The scene is the quay-side between large cannon.
