The journal describes an overland trip from Mendon, Michigan to Virginia City, Montana and the return trip. Voorhees traveled along the Bozeman Trail and Bridger's Road. The journal has been reversed and three entries for July and August 1864 were added. There is a photoprint of Voorhees in the diary.

Holograph journal, illustrated, describing a brief trip from Weymouth to Guernsey, Jersey, Nantes and the Loire valley. The opening of the diary details sights seen in the Channel Islands, including the fort at Guernsey; the "druid's altars" (dolmens); and the pillorying of a man in St. Helier. Once in France, the author takes a particular interest in buidlings and gardens, including Chateaubriant, La Trappe, Clisson, and the "Lemont Villa" near Garenne; modes of transportation, from dilgence to barge; and the varying quality of French hotels and restaurants. and The volume is illustrated with 45 drawings in pen and ink and watercolor. Subjects include the dolmens on Guernsey (4 drawings) and the pillory in St. Helier; all of the chateaux and gardens named in the text (multiple views of most); buildings, street scenes, and gardens in Nantes; transport by donkey, horse, oxcart, omnibus, and boat; and several genre scenes, including one of a cow being inflated by a bellows.

The Burnett Family Papers consist of diaries, memoirs, invitations, and miscellaneous printed material. The diary of Lester Burnett, the father of W. C. Burnett, chronicles his journey to San Francisco by way of Panama, and his early days there. The entries run from July 13, 1850 to January 8, 1851. The diary of W. C. Burnett also describes a voyage to San Francisco and his early days there. Entries run from April 20 to May 24, 1854. In addition, there is an undated typescript memoir by Jane Cleveland Burnett, W. C. Burnettt's wife, entitled, "My Memories of Early California Days." There are also two folders of invitations to events in the San Francisco area dating from 1851 to 1891.

Typescript copy of a signed and notarized account by William J. Cogswell of the journey from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City between August 20 and November 15, 1870, by members of an acting troupe including Cogswell, E. B. Marden, Jared Carter and his wife Carrie, their two children, and Gedion Carter under the "Spiritual Influence" they received through a planchette. Cogswell describes daily spiritual revelations, encounters with Indians, locations of their theatrical performances, and their meeting with, and baptism by, Brigham Young. He concludes the account by listing reasons to support his theory that Young was a Spiritualist.

Abstract:
Three holograph notebooks containing diary entries relating to travel; barometrical recordings; and observations on the languages and customs of the Indians and the flora and fauna of Washington Territory and the Pacific Northwest written while Gibbs was working on the U.S. Army railroad survey and the survey of the International Boundary Commission. The first two notebooks contain a few miscellaneous drawings. The volumes are entitled "Indian Tribes 1853-1854," "No. II Journal & Notes, N.W.B.S. 1855-1858," and "Washington Territory Miscellaneous, Chiefly Natural History [ca. 1857]."

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of notes concerning the French nobility. The manuscript begins with genealogical histories of various French noble houses, including those of Lorraine; Savoy; Languedoc; Luxembourg; and Orleans. Other entries in the manuscript include an account of the French royal family; a list of the French nobility; and copies of letters of 1602 from Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, duc de Bouillon to King Henri IV and from the King to the authorities of the Dauphine about Bouillon. The collection also contains a number of entries in English, including a travel diary recording a journey from Blois to La Rochelle and an essay in English about the Swiss alliance with France. Dos-a-dos appears a list of Biblical kings.
