"Princess Caroline (left) sits in an ornate oval bath in a small boarded room. Bergami stands in the bath (right), draping himself in a towel from the waist down, and splashing water at his companion, who extends her arms towards him, with an encouraging smile. A man and woman, evidently Majocchi and Demont, peep from behind the door (right). On the bath is a Maltese cross (see British Museum Satires No. 13810), placed hatchment-wise between supporters, the Lion and Unicorn, who lie with closed and averted eyes. The Princess's feathered hat and the miniature of Bergami (cf. British Museum Satires No. 14103) hang on the wall (left). Beside her on a camp-stool are a bottle of 'Brandy' [see British Museum Satires No. 14175] and a decanter of 'Essence of Bergami'. "A realistic bedroom scene; the bed (right) in a curtained alcove. A man reclines in a long oval (portable) bath, full to the brim; seemingly of tin, with handles, with a pillow to support the head. One man shaves him, another massages his foot, while a coffee-tray floats on (or stands in) the water. He holds a delicately balanced spoon. A wig, simulating natural hair, stands on a tall wig-block; another stand supports a coat; a dandy's trousers lie on a chair. There is a small dressing-table with shaving materials and stoppered bottles. The room is otherwise bare, with no suggestion of luxury."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"Italian witnesses, in a large bare room or warehouse, where three are being washed in a large bath by Castlereagh, Sidmouth, and Liverpool. The bath is inscribed: 'Waters of Oblivion. Non mi Recordo [sic]--Ministerial Washing Tub--!' The three witnesses are villainous-looking, and coloured brown. Castlereagh empties a bucket over the head of one, saying: "Can the Etheopean change his Colour." Sidmouth, plying comb and scrubbing-brush, says: "Or the leper his Spots." Liverpool turns to a lawyer (right) saying: "I never had such a dirty job in my life." The lawyer, Gifford the Attorney-General, answers: "We must have them perfect in their Story before they go." He holds a document inscribed 'Milan' [see British Museum Satires No. 13755, &c.]. A second lawyer sits at his feet, mending a pair of breeches. He says: "They are truely a filthy set, we must clear them of Vermin." The discarded garments of the men in the tub lie on the ground, with combs, a lump of 'Itch Ointment', and a box of 'Sulphor'. There are also two boxes: one (left) of 'Windsor Soap', the other (right), 'New Rigging from Monmouth Street' (where second-hand clothes were sold). Three ragged ruffians wait their turn, seated on the ground. Two play cards; one says: "Quel Maledetto Sacco"; the other responds "Ah! quel Sacco" (the Green Bag, see British Museum Satires No. 13735). On the wall behind them hang 'Italian Masks and Daggers just imported.' A high shelf runs round the room, on which stand a pile of 'Dutch Cheese', bottles of 'Italian Oil' and 'Botled Frogs', casks of 'Shalots and Garlick', 'Sour Grout', 'Portable Soup', 'Salt Herrings', 'Butter', a huge basket of 'Eggs', and three jars of 'Pickle'. Abstract:
"The Regent, in tight and dandified admiral's full-dress uniform, wearing a cocked hat, is carried by two bathing women (cf. British Museum Satires no. 8432) from a bathing-machine (right) to the barge 'Royal George', for transit to the royal yacht. Just behind is the machine, inscribed 'The Best Machines in Brighton'; from it two naked girls look towards the departing prince. A sailor standing in the barge, which flies the Royal Standard, seizes the Regent's ankles; one foot is gouty and swollen; he says to the man standing behind him (left): "My eyes jack this here craft will never carry him--we should bring the sheers and reeve a tackle for him in the long boat--!!" A naval officer stands beside the sailor, and shouts an order to the man behind: "shove the Barge further a stern & be d--d to you--what you about a head there." The Regent has an arm round the neck of each woman and grasps the plump breast of the nearer one who is comely. He says: "Do my dear Girls put me on board safe, I shall Tell Paget to give you some Grog--I have been almost suffocated in that infernal Bathing Machine--mind my foot." One bathing-woman says: "Faith he's no joke Judy the devil a heavier Burthen in all the country"; her comelier companion answers: "By my own soul I'd rather carry such a nice neat beautiful young Gentleman, than the best basket of mackerel that ever was at Billingsgate." The sailor on the left uses a pole to manipulate the barge, the bow of which is cut off by the left margin. He wears a tight blue jacket to the (pinched) waist, with red collar and cuffs, white trousers, and top-hat with a badge: 'Royal George'. With a grimace he says: "D--n these soldiers jackets I can't move in em--I suppose we shall all be lobsters by & bye!!" Behind (right) are the chalk cliffs of Brighton, with tiny figures waving their hats; one woman is seated on a donkey holding up a parasol."--British Museum online catalogue
