Contemporary scribal copy in several hands of this travel account. Tommaso del Bene left Florence with his suite on 21 July 1695 and returned on 7 April 1696. On both the outward and return journies he travelled by way of the Brenner, Germany and the Low Countries. He landed in England on 20 October 1695 and remained there until 6 January 1696. Dal Pino's account of the stay in England covers 100 pages. It includes notes of the envoy's diplomatic and social activity, a long description of a Lord Mayor's show (p. 143-49), descriptions of visits to Windsor and Hampton Court, with comments on the works of art, and reports of proceedings in Parliament. The narrative is followed by a list of the stages of the journeys and an index of places

Title supplied by cataloger., Nineteenth century forgery of a portlan chart., Manuscript note in accompanying case: A manuscript portolan on vellum probably executed by a Spanish chartmaker circa 1550, the coasts outlined in green with place names in gothic letters of red and black, decorated with devices of the sun and moon in umber heightened with gold, 14 x 9 inches. Two scrapbooks containing a collection of mostly 18th century engravings and etchings, some of which are purported to have belonged to Horace Walpole, organized thematically. With four original drawings, including a watercolor and wash drawing of the Neapolitan painter Luca Jordano signed by J.B. Catenaro, an unsigned portrait in red crayon of Cornelius Jansen, a pencil portrait of an unknown woman, and another small pencil drawing of a landscape. The first volume contains etchings and engravings of English villages and rural scenes including the farm house and printing house at Strawberry Hill and two vignettes of Strawberry Hill; topographical scenes in Surrey and Twickenham; etchings of Roman scenes; portraits of eminent historical and contemporary political figures and The second volume begins with a series of 192 small French engravings of women, which document the hair styles and hat fashions in the 17th and 18th centuries, all engraved by Dupin or Desrais. A second series of the 48 engravings from Wenceslaus Hollar's Theatrum mulierum depict the costumes of 17th century women (mostly) in Europe. These prints are followed by 29 small engravings by C. Heath of prominent British politicians and writers of the 18th century. The final pages include several portraits of contemporary British and French figures as well as the plates drawn and engraved by Henry Moses for A series of twenty-nine designs of modern costume published in London by E. and C. M'Lean in 1823

"Four men stand on the sea-shore, in back view but looking to the right: the King of Prussia stands between Holland (left) and Pitt (right); he holds Holland by the ear and kicks Pitt behind, saying, "This is the balance of Europe". Pitt, who is blindfolded, says, "yes I'll maintain it"; he holds out in each hand a naming fire-brand to two towns on the right, 'Cronstadt' and 'Rerel' [sic]. The whole district is in flames, and there are four other burning cities (one 'Riga'); the flames and smoke from all six merge and are inscribed 'Russia', 'Poland', 'Germany', 'Austria'. The sea which stretches between Pitt and the burning cities is the 'Baltic'. On it is a boat containing four men: the helmsman says, "I would rather be a Baltic trader"; the two oarsmen say, "Do not mind it, it will bring other wars" and "No prize money"; a man looking through a telescope says, "No Galeons - Storms, Sholas & Rocks." A man standing on the shore shouts to the boat "nothing good to be got by it." Frederick William, who wears crown, military uniform, and jack-boots, conceals behind him, half thrust into his coat-pocket, a paper: 'Danzic & Thorn'. Holland, a fat burgher, is smoking; he says "What a blessed Alliance". In his right hand is a paper: 'pyg--t O I hope all dis vill end in a Smoke.' The fourth man, who stands on the extreme left, is a British citizen who scowls as he reads a newspaper inscribed 'The Trade of the Baltic Lost - New Taxes Malt - Porter'.
