Liebert Book Fund, 2009., Hester Thrale Piozzi (1741-1821), author and diarist, published one of the first biographies of Samuel Johnson, Anecdotes of the Late Samuel Johnson (1786); her Thraliana, a combined diary and commonplace book, was not published until 1942., Ownership inscription on front flyleaf of volume 1: H. L. Piozzi. 1794., Ownership inscription on front pastedown of volume 8: H.R.H. given to him by her Majesty Victoria., and Piozzi's annotations range from brief notes on the text of the essays to lengthy anecdotes; quotations from and comments on other English authors; and social and historical observations. There are eight references to Samuel Johnson, and several to the Prince of Wales; other historical figures mentioned include the Duke of Marlborough and Lord Nelson. Historical observations include the disappearance of road signposts; changes in the staging of Shakespeare's plays; variations in women's fashions and in attitudes toward women authors. Piozzi also includes personal reminiscences and corrections to the text.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of 8 descriptions in poetry and prose of William Shenstone's Leasowes estate, each titled "Shenstone's Walks" and numbered 1 to 8. Addressed to "Zattoo," the narrator leads the reader through various walks on the grounds, commenting on the views and interspersing his narrative with verses inscribed on various objects he encounters, as when he explains to Zattoo, "From this Place the Path leads some few Yards, till it opens to a wide & very uneven, irregular Lawn--We shall recover our Path again, so let us quit it, while we go and contemplate that Urn, which is fixed in the Center, & thus inscribed..." The narrator also describes encountering "the Gothic Bower," which is inscribed with a poem "in old English characters" exhorting the reader not to look down upon those who rest contentedly there; and elsewhere, directs his listener's attention to an urn erected to "Miss Dolman, a first Cousin of W. Shenstone's" and to the elegy to her inscribed upon it.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a detailed plan for a public music school in England, to be established at the Foundling Hospital in London. Burney, with his friend violinist Felice Giardini, gives reasons why the plan would be financially beneficial to the hospital and economically effective for the country, how the school would "contribute greatly to the maintenance & instruction of a considerable number of the children of the Hospital," how the school would help remedy "the neglect of music as a profession" in Great Britain, and how to find students among "numerous charity schools, work houses, etc." He also includes a proposed schedule and salary for its instructors.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of 39 primarily sentimental and occasional poems on such subjects as friendship, death, solitude, nature, and women's beauty, by various authors, including Edward Jerningham, David Garrick, Hannah More, William Hayley, and Hester (Mulso) Chapone. Other poems have been written by Heigham's acquaintances, including several sonnets by Charlotte Smith and an elegy by Mr Hammond. Moreover, the collection contains several theatrical epilogues, including one altered from that written by Richard Sheridan and performed by "Henry Heigham." At the end of the volume, in another hand, is a poem titled On the death of a most indulgent mother by her son.
